2016 marks the 90th anniversary of the birth of American illusionist and magician Harry Houdini (born Erik Weisz) who was of Hungarian origin. Houdini was the greatest escapologist of all times and also one of the greatest performers of the modern age.
In cooperation with Houdini House Budapest, National Széchényi Library will exhibit the unique private collection which could be seen earlier by visitors of the Hungarian Pavilion at Expo Milano 2015.
The exhibition will be open for one month, between January 27 and February 27, 2016, in Building “F” of Buda Castle (Tuesday to Saturday, between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.).
Curator of the private collection is escapologist David Merlini.
Opening ceremony of the exhibition will take place at 17.30 on January 26, 2016 in the Ceremonial Hall of National Széchényi Library.
Welcome speech will be delivered by Géza Szőcs, Government Commissioner of Expo Milano; the exhibition will be opened by Péter Fekete, Jászai Award winning director, Government Commissioner and manager.
The collection will be presented by David Merlini, and a lecture entitled”More than a circus! New self-made-man worldview” will be held by Professor Vilmos Voight (Department of Folklore, Faculty of Humanities at Eötvös Loránd University).
