2017 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Hungarian poet János Arany. This year has been declared János Arany Memorial Year by the Hungarian National Assembly and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS). Patron of the memorial year is László Lovász, President of HAS.

On September 16, 2016, the Ministry of Human Capacities will launch an EU project entitled “Acting Communities – Active Community Involvement”, the primary aim of which is to strengthen social cohesion by way of an increased involvement of cultural institutions (libraries, museums, public education institutions).
A volume of essays entitled Ha szabad így mondanom (If I May Say So) by András Udvarhelyi will be presented in the Ceremonial Hall of NSZL at 5 p.m. on September 22, 2016, on György Faludy’s birthday.
In September 2016, Library Day will be held for the eighth time by the Hungarian Information Science Foundation and Eötvös Loránd University Library Service for university and college students studying in Budapest.
It has been long due for National Széchényi Library to set up the first exhibition presenting the unmatched library of Gyula Todoreszku.
This fall, too, National Széchényi Library will take part in the event entitled European Heritage Days. The title of NSZL’s building historical walk is “Metamorphosis and symbiosis”.
As a final phase of computer network development in National Széchényi Library, our old central network devices will be replaced by new ones. Due to the replacement, our internet services, including the online catalog, thematic websites, LIBINFO, etc., will not be available on Sunday September 11, 2016.
