The joint exhibition of National Széchényi Library and the Hungarian Comics Association will be closed on July 26, 2018. At the finissage ceremony, the catalog of the exhibition will be presented and a professional guided tour of the exhibition will also be held. The publication will be presented by Tamás Dunai, professor of the Department of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Szeged, and by the curators of the exhibition.

For some people comic strips mean superheroes, for others they evoke pleasant childhood memories, and there are those who have never read comic strips, said Anikó Ágnes Patonai, Eszter Szép and Rita Szűts-Novák, curators of the exhibition entitled Comics as Narrative. The 9th Art and its Icons in Hungary – exhibition in the catalog made about the exhibition. The volume written about the joint exhibition of National Széchényi Library and the Hungarian Comics Association focuses on two decisive periods in the history of Hungarian comic strips: the period of the so-called adaptation comic strips, lasting from 1957 until 1975, and that of the contemporary comic strips.

As it can be read in the publication, the image material of the catalog faithfully reflects the changes in attitude that were characteristic of the past decades. In addition to representing the different concepts of comic strips in the afore-mentioned periods, the catalog also discusses the beginnings of comic strips in Hungary, as well as the survival of the tradition of adaptation comic strips. The volume presents rarities from the history comic strips, and works by more than thirty contemporary Hungarian artists.
