Centenary exhibition of Xiling Seal Engraver’s Society will visit National Széchényi Library.

The development of Chinese seal engraving and that of Chinese characters have the same roots. The official emblem of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games was designed to resemble an ancient Chinese seal, and in 2009, the art of Chinese seal engraving was inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO.

The Xiling Seal Art Society was founded in 1904; currently it has a total of 504 members. Outside China, it has members in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, France, the Czech Republic, Canada and the United States.

The exhibition series entitled “Centenary of Xiling Seal Engraver’s Society” was launched by Xiling Seal Art Society in 2008, in order to showcase traditional Chinese seal and calligraphy art and painting to audiences around the world. The exhibition will feature nearly one hundred Chinese paintings, and also works made by Xiling Seal Artists for the Beijing Olympics.

Opening ceremony: Monday September 3, 2018, 4 p.m.
