Depicting iconic sites in the history of universal human culture, including Athens, the Acropolis, Epidaurus, Delphi and other emblematic sites, these black and white photographs capture with admirable vividness the essence of ancient Hellenic culture, art and history. American photographer Robert McCabe first visited Greece in 1954 and has continued to capture the beauty and history of the country ever since. His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and publications worldwide.
The Hungarian National Library, as a strategic cultural institution, is committed to the preservation of the Hungarian and universal cultural heritage and to the presentation and dissemination of its values, and is therefore delighted to cooperate – not for the first time – with the Embassy of Greece in the implementation of this cultural mission.
The photographer dedicates the pictures to the memory of his friend, the great Hungarian philhellenist Edmond Solymosy.
