On 22nd of May 2025 Edgard Pérez Alván, the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Peru to Hungary, paid another visit to the national library, where he held discussions on the possibilities of strengthening bilateral cultural relations.
This visit was not without precedent: the ambassador had previously visited the national library located in the Buda Castle, but this time he came primarily for negotiations. He was received at the library by Judit Gerencsér, Deputy Director General.
The main focus of the meeting was a potential cooperation agreement between the National Library of Peru and the Hungarian institution, to be facilitated by the Embassy of Peru in Budapest. The parties agreed that enhancing relations between the libraries of the two countries holds significant cultural value and it could contribute to the mutual appreciation of Latin American and Hungarian cultural heritage in the long term. In this spirit, the two sides expressed their intention to organize an event that would bring Peruvian culture closer to the Hungarian public.
According to current plans, the upcoming program will be hosted not only by the National Széchényi Library (NSZL) but also by the National Library of Foreign Literature. The theme of the event is under discussion, but the participants voiced their hope that concrete ideas could be materialized in 2026.
