Competition entitled Beautiful Hungarian Map was first launched in 1996, with the aim of raising the level of Hungarian map culture and making it possible for beautifully made maps to penetrate the market. In order to meet both requirements, the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics at ELTE University, Budapest (formerly Lázár deák Térképészeti Alapítvány, Scribe Lazarus Cartographic Foundation) and National Széchényi Library announce the so-called Beautiful Hungarian Map competition each and every year.

This year’s entries have been evaluated and awarded by a jury including experts as well as laymen. Head of the jury was Dr. László Tüske, Director-General of National Széchényi Library. The exhibition of map entries gives an overall picture of products of the Hungarian cartographic profession for the general public.

An exhibition of items sent in for the Beautiful Hungarian Map 2014 competition will be open between March 27 and April 11, 2015, in the Ceremonial Hall of National Széchényi Library on Floor 6, during the opening hours of the Library. Attendance is free at the opening ceremony.
Maps of the Beautiful Hungarian Map 2014 competition are displayed with the aim of letting companies and organizations, making cartographic works, as well as the latest Hungarian cartographic trends be better known for the general public, not just for those who are members of the cartographic profession.

Opening ceremony of the exhibition and the announcement of results will take place on March 27, 2015, at 3 p.m., in the Ceremonial Hall of National Széchényi Library on Floor 6.

Welcome speech will be delivered by Dr. László Tüske, Director-General of NSZL.

The event will be introduced by academician Dr. István Klinghammer.

Awards will be handed over by Dr. László Zentai, Head of the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics at ELTE University, Budapest and by Dr. László Tüske, Director-General of National Széchényi Library.
