Cooperation agreement and digitization experience from Taiwan

On April 10 2015, Shu-hsien Tseng, Directress-General of the National Central Library of Taiwan visited National Széchényi Library where she got acquainted with the operation of NSZL’s major units. Leaders of the national libraries of Taiwan and Hungary also signed a cooperation agreement and exchanged experience gained during work related to digitization. On her visit to NSZL, Shu-hsien Tseng, Directress-General of the National Central Library of Taiwan donated valuable rare books to National Széchényi Library.

On April 10, Dr. László Tüske, Director-General of National Széchényi Library received his Taiwanese colleague Shu-hsien Tseng and Leo Lin, fellow worker of the Department of International Cooperation at National Central Library in his office. The official program was joined by Wen Lung Tao, Head of Taipei Representative Office, Budapest and his delegation.

On the occasion of their visit to National Széchényi Library, our Taiwanese colleagues got acquainted with the work of NSZL’s Restoration and Bindery Deaprtment, they also visited the Map Collection and had a look at some of the major items from our treasures in the Collection of Early Printed Books and in the Library’s Manuscript Collection. After the library tour, the Taiwanese guests introduced themselves with a lecture, in which they reported on their own experience with digitization. Directress-General Shu-hsien Tseng directed the digitization project of National Central Library with great success, so she arrived in Budapest with experience rather useful for her Hungarian colleagues. Her lecture was followed by a workshop meeting with leaders of the Library and staff members who are involved in the topic.

On the occasion of the official visit, the Taiwanese-Hungarian Interlibrary Agreement was ceremoniously signed. This agreement has laid the foundations and framework for future cooperation including mutual sharing of publications and digital collections, possibility of the exchange of research fellows, launching joint exhibitions and holding joint conferences as well as close cooperation in various fields of information technology.
