On January 27, 2016 Mohammed Abd Alhadi Almatrafi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Budapest paid a visit to NSZL, in the company of Dr. Abd Elmunam Kaddoura, editor-in-chief of Kék Duna Magazin (Blue Danube Magazine) and a staff member of the Embassy.

Our guests were received by Director-General Dr. László Tüske, who briefly presented the history, role and significance of the Hungarian national library in cultural life, emphasizing the necessity of a dialogue between Eastern and Western cultures.

His Excellency Ambassador Almatrafi drew attention to the center for dialogue between religions, founded in Vienna, and he also emphasized the efforts Saudi Arabia has made in order to start a cultural dialogue between civilizations. In this spirit, the possibility of cooperation between the Royal Library of Saudi Arabia and National Széchényi Library was raised.

After the meeting, NSZL’s Early Printed Books Collection, Manuscript Collection and Map Collection were presented to the visitors in the Apponyi Room of the Library. Our colleagues, Farkas Gábor Farkas, Anna Boreczky and György Danku presented selected treasures of the collections of the Hungarian national library to the visitors.

During the visit, the Saudi delegation gave presents to our library including publications on the history and archeological monuments of Saudi Arabia.
