On November 7, 2016, a delegation of leaders of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan paid a professional visit to National Széchényi Library.

Members of the delegation were: Munalbayeva Umutkan Daurenbekovna, Head of the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Orazova Kulash Daniyarovna, Head of the Sector, Service of Formation of Funds and Yermekbayeva Maira, Head of the Service of Information and Cultural Program.

The Kazakh delegation was received by Director-General László Tüske. Our guests were first taken on a guided tour of the Library led by István Elbe, Director of Information Services, and then they visited the Collection of Early Printed Books and the Manuscript Collection.

The guests were deeply interested in the work of our Restoration and Bindery Department, since the Astana-based Kazakh national library will soon launch a paper and book restoring project. Head of department Marianne Érdi talked about current projects, and members of the delegation got acquainted with restoration processes, to which they paid special attention. They were also informed about the leading role NSZL has been playing in the training of Hungarian book restorers.

According to our guests, due to the cooperation agreement between the two national libraries, the knowledge and know-how of our restorers can be used very well in the restoring center to be set up in Kazakhstan.

Representatives of the two national libraries signed a cooperation agreement and they inaugurated a Kazakh book corner on Floor 7 of National Széchényi Library. The book corner features approximately fifty books donated by the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The books include publications presenting the Republic of Kazakhstan, fiction and textbooks. The ceremonies of singing a cooperation agreement and inaugurating a Kazakh book corner were also attended by His Excellency Nurbakh Rustemov, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Hungary and Mr. Yermek Zhylkaidarov, Third Secretary.

During their stay in Hungary, members of the Kazakh delegation also paid a visit to the Library of Parliament, Metropolitan Ervin Szabó Library and the Hungarian National Museum.
