National Széchényi Library will be closed between July 16, 2018 and September 3, 2018. Our temporary exhibitions will be open during the summer closure, Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Hungary’s oldest digital library, the Hungarian Electronic Library (Hungarian abbreviation: MEK) is proud to present its 18,000th volume, a book on chess by Viktor Akantisz and Károly Rozsnyai.
The seventy precious items of the exhibition, quite a few of which will be exhibited for the first time, present the development of the cartography of the Danube region between 1650 and 1800. The exhibition is based on a rich collection of maps and landscapes that had been established by the marquises of Baden for military purposes.
You and your friends are cordially invited to the opening ceremony of the exhibition entitled CHANGING SPACES. The Danube region on historical maps, 1650–1800, to be held in the Ars Librorum exhibition space of National Széchényi Library. The event will start at 4 p.m. on Thursday August 2, 2018.
The joint exhibition of National Széchényi Library and the Hungarian Comics Association will be closed on July 26, 2018. At the finissage ceremony, the catalog of the exhibition will be presented and a professional guided tour of the exhibition will also be held.
At the same time with the summer closure beginning on July 16, reconstruction work will be started in NSZL. This is why the summer closure of National Széchényi Library will be longer this year than usual. The Library will be open again on Tuesday September 4, 2018.
János Arany’s most precious manuscripts and other documents arrived in National Széchényi Library from Nagyszalonta-based János Arany Memorial Museum in February 2018, so as to be restored by experts.
