Until October 31, 2015, you can come and try out Gale Virtual Reference Library in the Library of Book History, Library and Information Science. The multidisciplinary database includes encyclopedias and other professional information resources in various special fields. Until now, these resources could be studied only in a printed format.

“The most notable momentum about the Apor Codex is the first Hungarian translation of the Book of Psalms. It happens to be part of the same text tradition, other elements of which have been preserved by books of the Old Testament included in the Vienna Codex and by the four gospels which can be read in the Codex of Munich…” Presentation of the volume will be held on October 20, 2015, at 5 p.m., in the Library.

In Hungarian Electronic Library, you can read a trilingual publication reviewing a series of documentaries, made by director duo Katalin Petényi and Barna Kaba and Bence Gyöngyössy, on Italian-Hungarian art relations and the history of common cultural heritage.

The library of King Matthias Hunyadi was the first and most significant royal Renaissance-era library in Europe outside Italy. Contained within the library were 2,000 volumes at the time of Matthias’ death but following that, the majority of the codices had either been destroyed or scattered all over. At present, 216 corvinas are kept by libraries across Europe and the United States.

Due to an event to be held in Sándor Palace, on Wednesday October 7,  between circa 10 and 12 a.m. and also between 2 and 3 p.m., total closedown can be expected periodically in the area from Dísz Square to Lion Courtyard. During closedown, pedestrian traffic will be prohibited. In order to easily access our Library, we suggest you to use the Express Elevator to be found at the entrance at Palota Street, just above Dózsa Square.
Our great autumn exhibition, presenting propaganda which played a central role in World war I, was prolonged and will be open until April 9, 2016. At the time of WWI, propaganda was a radically new phenomenon and our exhibition aims at drawing its nature study. Total war required support from the general public, so all of the participating countries were keen on maintaining the patriotic and militant enthusiasm of their people.

NSZL has just finished the overall processing of Count Sándor Apponyi’s small but significant bibliophile collection which had been donated to the Hungarian national library in 1924. Description of over 500 works can be accessed from the Library’s online catalog.
