National Széchényi Library commemorates the 220-year old Hungarian book market by an exhibition presenting centuries of book trade in Hungary. The exhibition can be visited at the ceremonial stand of the 22nd International Book Festival Budapest, during the Festival.

As of April 23, 2015, you can visit a book exhibition in Cervantes Institute, Budapest where you can see, among others, the first, Jean Pierre Florian edition of Don Quixote; the three-volume book published in 1829 (in French) by Hartleben Publishing House; and the first Hungarian translation, by Ignác Karády, which had been published one month before the freedom fight and revolution of 1848 broke out.

National Széchényi Library will have a publisher’s stand at the International Book Festival Budapest this year. Entitled Celebrating the Book (A könyv ünnepeL), a chamber exhibition will commemorate the 220-year old Hungarian book profession. You are kindly invited to the press conference and the literary evening!

The third volume of National Széchényi Library’s Supplementum Corvinianum series has been published. The English- and German-language catalogue and volume of studies describe the nine corvinas kept in the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbüttel with a codicological description more detailed than any previous descriptions.

On April 15, 2015, Turkish book illustrator and ebru master Ahmet Sacit Açıkgözoğlu will deliver an exclusive lecture on Turkish handicraft book illustrating techniques in National Széchényi Library.

On April 10, Shu-hsien Tseng, Directress-General of the National Central Library of Taiwan visited our Library. Directors of the Taiwanese and Hungarian national libraries presented their institutions and exchanged digitization experience with each other. On top of that, they signed a professional cooperation agreement between the two national libraries.

Tigran Zargaryan, Director-General of the National Library of Armenia paid an official visit to National Széchényi Library between March 25 and 27, 2015. He signed a bilateral agreement with Dr. László Tüske, Director-General of NSZL about a close cooperation between the two national libraries, cooperation in tenders, exchange of professional experience and also about the bibliographical as well as digital exchange of materials belonging to the scope of collection of both libraries.
The most beautiful Hungarian map of 2014 depicts the Zemplén Mountains and it was made for tourists and cyclists. Both the esthetic form and the content of the map were highly appreciated by the jury who granted 1st prize of the category unanimously. The exhibition of competing items will be open until April 11, 2015 in NSZL’s Ceremonial Hall, on Floor 6 of the Library.

During this war, in the “battle of David and Goliath”, the entire world turned to Finland with sympathy. However, only a few countries provided so much help like Hungary that sent a battalion of volunteers, military equipment and humanitarian aid for the Finnish Red Cross. The exhibition was launched with the participation of several Hungarian cultural institutions.
