On February 17, 2016 László Tüske, Director-General of NSZL will deliver a lecture at the second biggest book festival of Asia, at Taipei International Book Exhibition. Our Library will represent Hungary with several publications at the festival and, following the exhibition, these publications will be donated to National Central Library.

On March 2, 2016 National Széchényi Library will hold a roundtable discussion with the participation of collectors, antiquarians and bibliographers. The discussion will focus on topics such as: What were the characteristics of Petrik’s bibliography, what was the Hungarian national bibliography like between 1701 and 1920? How the science historical status of retrospective national bibliography can be described? We are looking forward to seeing you at the discussion!

In the first quarter of 2016, National Széchényi Library will organize a free series of screenings of films which were presented at the Hungarian Pavilion of Expo Milano 2015. The organizers of Expo Milano aimed at placing the culture of the exhibiting countries in the spotlight by providing a reason and opportunity to make these films. Date of the second screening is Thursday February 11, 2016, 5 p.m.

The album entitled Ex libris and image culture. Modern Hungarian ex librises by Kornélia Vas-Tóth, published by NSZL and Kossuth Publishing House, will be presented on February 24, 2016. The image album presents over 1,000 ex librises to readers. Exceptionally well-written, the volume features rich content in its introductory part, a thorough list of images and an index of names. Running on 352 pages, it gives an overall view of modern Hungarian ex librises.

Our recently published volume focuses on the art historical correlations of image making and reception. Illustrated press is a less known segment of the history of 19th-century media. Its study is a typically interdisciplinary field, being one of the hottest topics of culture research and modern image research.

We would like to inform our readers and visitors that, as of February 2, 2016, the cloakroom of the Library was moved back to its original place, to the premises opening right from the main entrance. Rules for the use of the cloakroom have not changed, it is compulsory and free.

Mohammed Abd Alhadi Almatrafi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Budapest paid a visit to NSZL, in the company of Dr. Abd Elmunam Kaddoura, editor-in-chief of Kék Duna Magazin (Blue Danube Magazine) and a staff member of the Embassy.

On January 22, the National Day of Hungarian Culture, the original manuscript of  Hymnus (Hymn) will be on display in Lenti. In addition to the exhibition, lectures will also be delivered and musical programs will be held. The national library will host a two-day scientific session entitled Propaganda – history, art and media in World War I.
