Our Library keeps a major part of Károly Escher’s bequest including some 38,000 shots. The cameraman and photo artist was born in Szekszárd, Southern Hungary. The exhibition is a selection made from this material, which presents Károly Escher, one of the most significant Hungarian cameramen of the 20th century.

László Bíró memorial exhibition, which has been open for weeks in the Hungarian pavilion of Expo Milano 2015, can now been visited in National Széchényi Library. The show presenting the oeuvre of László Bíró, inventor of the ballpoint pen, automatic gear and lots of other innovations, will be opened on November 12, 2015.

On October 17, 2015 the Oradea Roman Catholic Bishop Palace organized a conference in the ceremonial hall of the episcopate to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Flóris Rómer, Canon of Nagyvárad. The event was accompanied by the opening of an exhibition and a book presentation.

Organized jointly by several cultural institutions, a scientific conference will be held on November 9-10, 2015 at the Arts Faculty of ELTE and in National Széchényi Library. Several Library staff members will also deliver lectures on topics related to the history of religion and culture.

Nil Baydar, chief restorer at Istanbul-based Institute of Turkish Manuscripts recently paid a visit to National Széchényi Library. At the professional meeting with Hungarian experts, it turned out that in Turkey the preservation, conservation and digital processing of manuscripts, early prints and rare books are carried out in a structure different from the one used in Hungary.

“The newspaper is living, it does not let itself be bound and its fate is just as diverse as that of people.” We are going to commemorate our recently deceased bibliographer colleague on November 5, 2015, at a conference organized jointly with Petőfi Literary Museum (PIM).
